The vocabulary word I know the best

Irony is the word I know the best because it is a common used word in society and I have used the word since middle school. Studying helped me to memorize it.

The Word I Have Really Learned

The word I have learned and memorized the best is antebellum. I think I learned this the best because when I first started to try and learn this word it was really hard for me and I could never remember it. So, I went over tons of times until I knew it by memory. I think thats the reason why I have remembered and still do remember the word and definition.

Morgan's Journal (freewrite)

This weekend I went horseback riding and it was cool except for the partwhen we had to go to the cave. There was a cliff and you had to jump up on a rock to get across a waterfall and I didnt think my horse could make it and I was scared. So my papaw jumped it and came back across and got on my horse and went across. Then when my step dad tried to go across his horses back leg slipped off the rock and when tumbling down the hill. It was sooooo scary. :/

Ryan's Reflective Piece

During this semester I have learned alot. I have learned how to be responsible and turn in work on time. Also I have learned that zeros will dramatically bring your grade down even if its not very many points. I expect that next semester I will have better grades because I am going to try harder. I expecially know antebellum because its also in the name of a band.

Morgan's Reflective Article.

I learned that I have a hard time catching on to things. For example I had a hard time understanding the PA and SSA sheets. Not really the paper but what is supposed to go on the paper in some parts. But I expect to get better grades and try harder to understand what we are doing in the class and what I need to do to bec ome a better student.

Destineys Reflective Piece

I have learned alot from this past semester. For example, get your work turned in on time or you will be behind even If It's just one paper. I think that I have became alot more responsible this year. Next Semesterr I expect the samething.

Six Phrase Journal

The Christmas trees, strung with gold lights and seeing everything lit up always makes me happy. Sitting beside the warm fire talking to family and friends. I like to go outside and play around in the snow. Making snowballs can be a difficult thing to do so I find just throwing large globs of snow to be more fun. To slide in the snow quickly always makes me excited. Coming in from building a snowman, our faces red, hands frozen, I like to drink hot chocolate to make me warm. To give presents and make people happy is one of my favorite things about Christmas and of course getting them also. Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year.

Thanksgiving Article

Thanksgiving

In the month of November, we all think of fall colors, hot cocoa, and cozy nights by the fire. Many also think of a long weekend, with football, family, and promising food. November graces us with the festive holiday event of Thanksgiving. Over the years, we all have found what it means to be thankful cherishing our families and friends, and the beauty that surrounds us everyday is a day of giving thanks. During this time we tend to reflect back to the teachings of the great meal the Pilgrims and Indians shared, complete with turkey, pumpkin pie, corn, cranberries and sweet potatoes, marking the first Thanksgiving Day in the New World. Was it really that simple? The flowering of the Thanksgiving holiday was a bit more than that. Many analysts argue that although the Pilgrims did indeed hold a thanksgiving celebration, it did not become an annual tradition, thus, this celebration did not initiate the Thanksgiving holiday. Also, some argue that the settlers did not view it as a thanksgiving holiday. It was merely a harvest festival, and these devoutly religious people would give thanks to God by fasting and prayer. In truth, several such one-time thanksgiving celebrations occurred before the holiday was set in place. When George Washington became president, he declared a day of thanksgiving and prayer, but the nation was not yet united enough to launch such a national holiday. The Pilgrims' celebration was initially referred to as the first Thanksgiving in 1841 by Alexander Young in his Chronicles of the Pilgrim Fathers. At that point the holiday was slowly becoming more widespread and was declared a national holiday in 1863 by President Lincoln. Many people take a step back into history to relive these experiences and mingle with famous statesmen, soldiers, craftsmen, clergymen and citizens who gather for a Day of Public Thanksgiving at the annual Jeffersonian Thanksgiving Festival in historic downtown Charlottesville. There are over sixty events and activities that are designed to let you experience what that community was like during the American Revolution. At several different venues, you will meet about 150 costumed professional and amateur living historians and dramatic artists portraying famous people from the past who lived or visited the area. Many of these people will be interpreted using their own original writings, either in short dramatic discussions and meetings, or in informal conversations as you meet them roaming about Court Square, Lee Park, or the Downtown Mall.An important historical place to visit is Plymouth Rock. It's housed within the smallest state park in Massachusetts, Pilgrim Memorial State Park, which is visited by nearly one million people each year. According to legend, Plymouth Rock is the boulder upon which the Pilgrims landed when they arrived at the location of their permanent settlement in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620. Most first-time visitors to "the rock" are a bit surprised by its smallness. How could such a monumental artifact in American history be so puny? For starters, the well intentioned residents of Plymouth who first set out to preserve the symbolic rock in 1774 had the unpleasant experience of watching the rock split in two when a team of oxen attempted to raise it. only the upper portion of Plymouth Rock left the waterfront originally for display in the Town Square. Remember the bottom part of the rock that was left behind at the waterfront? The Pilgrim Society acquired the other half of Plymouth Rock in 1859, and in 1867, a Plymouth Rock canopy structure was completed at the waterfront to house it. Unfortunately, the canopy was not large enough to hold the whole rock, so a few pieces had to be hacked off and sold as souvenirs.Plymouth Rock remains a powerful tribute to the courage of the 102 Mayflower passengers who founded the land we know as New England.

Destiney's Journal: A Poem I Have Recently Read.

We're having a Halloween party at school.
I'm dressed up like Dracula. Man, I look cool!
I dyed my hair black and I cut off my bangs.
I'm wearing a cape and some fake plastic fangs.

I put on some makeup to paint my face white
like creatures that only come out in the night.
My fingernails, too, are all pointed and red.

There's no doubt I look like the evil undead.
My mom drops me off and I run into school
and suddenly feel like the world's biggest fool.
The other kids stare like I'm some kind of freak.
The Halloween party is not till next week.

Randa's Cycle 7 Journal- A poem I have recently read

Hope is the thing...

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Sammi's Poem

Sometimes I wonder If this Is real,
My love for you Is something I can feel,
When the sunlight Is on my face,
I can feel your touch and embrace on my skin.

The smile on your lips take me to a different place,
A world I've never known somewhere new to go of,
all the moon's and the star's In the sky.

You are the only one I want In my life.

What Is Poetry? By: Destiney

To me, Poetry is a form of writting. You can exspress your self freely. Poetry doesn't have to rhyme and you can write It however you please. Sometimes poetry can be difficult to start because you need a good subject!

Nick is a nice guy.
Nick has a problem.
A real problem.
In fact, he's got a lot of problems, but the worst one had landed him in jail in a holding cell.

Halloween Article : D

THE FUTURE OF HALLOWEENWhile we can't say for certain exactly how Halloween will be celebrated one hundred years from now, we have a pretty good idea about the next three years. But before we get to that, here are some thoughts on how the particular day of the week that Halloween falls on influences this holiday. For Christmas, it is not uncommon for people to start putting up decorations as early as Thanksgiving and they may leave them up all the way through New Years. Since the excepted Christmas season lasts literally weeks, you have much more time to spread out special events such as parties.Halloween on the other hand, usually does not become visible until October 31st., or at best a few days before and then vanishes like dust in an Autumn breeze the following day. You may spend weeks or even months in preparation for Halloween night, but all you get is one night. When Halloween falls on a week day, except Friday, celebrating tends to be smaller, particularly on a Wednesday or Thursday. These days are too far removed from the preceding weekend to have a Halloween party, and its virtually unheard of to hold a party after October 31st. If you have a party on a week night, it usually has to be short in duration as kids have school the next day and most adults have work. The best Halloween falls on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, giving more time for parties, haunts and Halloween fun.In 2007, Halloween fell on a Wednesday, and would normally be on the next calendar day the following year, but because 2008 is a leap year and February has a twenty-ninth day in it, Halloween will skip Thursday and fall on Friday instead. But the news keeps getting better. That also means Halloween will fall on a Saturday in 2009 and on a Sunday in 2010. There isn't another leap year until 2012, which will put it on Wednesday. The year 2014 will bring another Friday Halloween and the following two years will be weekend Halloweens.

Sammi jo's journal

Yes I have had an ephiphany. I remember one day I was looking at a truck online and I was trying to talk my dad into buying it for me. He asked me what all I was going to do with it. I told him I was going to paint it silver and black. Then... all of a sudden I realized exactly what i wanted my dream truck to like!!! Black... with " Sweet Southern Mudd Slinger " written on the hood, 6" inch lift kit, 44" inch tires, and camo seat colors with a brand new sound system to go with it(:(:

Morgan's Journal

I remember that the boy and his mother go on vacation and the boy sees an empty beach and he wants to explore it but he doesn't want to leave his widowed mother. :( but she lets him go and these boys came over to this big rock and started jumping off into the water and so the boy watched them for a while and was noticing that they stayed under water for a good period of time. He got curious and decided to join in. When he did the boys thought he was weird so they left. He then decided to check out the reason the other boys were staying under so long. so he ran and found his mother and asked her to buy him some goggles. After he had recieved his goggles he went back to the big rock, dived in and discovered an under water tunnel.

Last Weekend

Last Weekend
Last Friday I left school at 3:15 to go to a game in Spencer County and cheer. On the way there I was really bored because I had lost my ipod and had nothing to listen to. On Saturday, I went to the movies to see Zombieland with Randa and Daryl :). I had a good time this weekend.

The Longest I've Ever Heard My Breath. By: Randa

The Longest I Have Ever Held My Breath-By Randa
When I was a kid my brother and I had a contest to see who could stay under water the longest. I stayed down as long as I could, because I really wanted to win. While I was under the water I could not tell if my brother had already came out yet or not. So, I stayed as long as I possibly could to make sure I came up after him. I was only under for a few seconds, but it seemed like minutes had passed by. I couldn't think or breathe. I just sat there thoughtless with my eyes shut. I guess I had stayed under a little longer than I should have. When I came up I sucked in air as fast and as hard as I could. My head hurt a little bit afterwards, but I won so I was OK.

The Biggest Crowd I Have Ever Been In

The Biggest Crowd I Have Ever Been In
The biggest crowd I have ever been in would have to be last year at the LSU vs UK football game. The game was CRAZY. Everyone was so excited because UK had just beat the number 1 team! After the game everyone that could, ran down onto the field. There was this guy that decided he was going to tackle a police officer, probably not the smartest thing he has ever done.

The schools policy on cell phone usage is acceptable but it could be better. Instead of just using cell phones in lunch, we should be able to have them out during down time in the classroom, I don't think that would hurt as long as there were certain rules and regulations. For example: When you are done with all your work, and the teacher has checked it! I understand we should not be able to use out phones when we are doing work, taking test, or having classroom conversations, because of the distraction. So we don't see what it would hurt if the last or, few minutes of class, we could use our phones as long as we arent doing anything! It's way more productive then sitting there. If problems do ocur those who caused the problem should be punished and not everyone else. I think everyone would obey this because It's a huge privilege! Thanks Gold Team ; )

Style of your hair, shape of your eyes and your nose, the way you stare. As if you see right through my soul. It's your left hand and the way that its not quite as big as your right, the way you stand in the mirror before we go out at night, our quiet time, yor beautiful mind. they're all part of the list. things that i miss, things like your funny little laugh, the way you smile, or the way we kiss what i noticed is this: i come up with something new every single time that i sit and riminisce. the way your sweet smell lingers when you leave the room, stories you tell as we lay in the bed all afternoon. i dreamed you now every night, inm my mind is where we meet. and when im awake staring at pictures of you asleep. touching your face, invading your space, they're all part of the list, things that i miss things like your funny little laugh the way you smile or the way we kiss. What i notice is this: i come up with something new every single time that i sit and reminisce.

Our Editorial

We the Gold Group are writting thsi editorial to talk about our dress code at Montgomery County High School. Last year we were able to wear jeans with holes In them and this year we can't. Our student body does not like the fact that we can't wear them anymore, some teachers say that out opinion doesn't matter but we think otherwise, we think we should be able to wear certain jeans with at least one or two holes in them below or at the knee. Another problem we have Is that some girls can get away with wearing skirts up to their rear but, when other girls wear jeans with one hole or fray mark they get stopped and questioned in the hallway? Something we think that could make this problem more equal Is, wear certain jeans with holes or fray marks on fridays!

The most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to me was in 4th grade. My fellow classmates and I were standing in line to give our speeches about the environment, and i was up next. On my way to the front of the room i tripped and fell. I took 3 people down with me!

Letter to The Principal!=)

Dear Mr. Wilson,

I want to start off by thanking you for allowing us to use our cell phones at lunch, but I think that we should be allowed to have holes in our jeans. I dont think there is anything wrong with that as long as nothing inappropriate is showing and they come past our finger tips.
I also think that we should have more time in between classes to go to our lockers. We have alot of big books we have to carry around all day because we do not have time to go to our lockers.
We should also have more field trips. We spend almost all of our time sitting in class listening to our teachers talk. Not to sound rude, but that does get really old. I think our school should alow us to take at least 2 or 3 field trips each year just to get away from class and learn things in a more fun and easy way.

Sincerely,
Gold Team
